Preparing for school and beyond

The Kookaburra room educators provide a child centred and inclusive Preschool Program.

They believe a focus on autonomy and social development is important for success in all aspects of life, including the transition to school. Educators create a happy and harmonious environment, responding to the emotional and social needs of children to foster a strong sense of belonging.

Transition to school program

The Early Childhood Teacher facilitates a Transition to School program for children who will be starting school the following year.

This program focuses on supporting children to develop:

• Social and collaborative skills
• Friendship building skills
• Early literacy and numeracy
• Creative thinking and expression

A culture of respect and inclusion

Educators hold the centre’s values of respect, care, justice and unity as the foundation of the room’s ethos, and these are shared with children through everyday experiences.

Resources and learning opportunities reflect the diversity of our community and embrace different ways of thinking and being. Cultural inclusion is valued, with children participating in a daily Acknowledgement to Country and engaging with Aboriginal perspectives.

Connecting with families and community

Kookaburra room educators are committed to building strong partnerships with families to support each child’s learning and development.

Educators use information shared by families to extend children’s interests and embed family and community participation into the program.

The room also welcomes a range of visitors, including artists, musicians, dancers, fitness trainers and Aboriginal leaders, enriching the children’s learning experiences.
